From the beginning, owners Rich and Siri Gilpin have been committed to organic farming and artisan winemaking. Lavender Ridge Vineyard has been certified Organic by CCOF since 2005. The property is located in the Sierra foothills of California, 25 minutes south of Murphys, in the Salt Springs Valley. Historically, this valley was home to some of the earliest, most successful ranching and farming operations in Calaveras County and we proudly continue that tradition today. Situated on 42 acres at an elevation of 1200 feet, the land has a southern exposure with climate and soil conditions similar to those found in the Southern Rhône region of France. The vineyard is 7 acres of Rhône-varietal winegrapes including Roussanne, Marsanne, and Viognier, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache.

Overlooking the vineyard and expansive valley are the Winery and Cave. With over 30 years of experience, Winemaker Rich Gilpin crafts Lavender Ridge wines using traditional techniques including bin and barrel fermentation with native yeasts.  Exclusive use of French oak barrels yields the exceptional softness and vibrant richness of fruit expressed in our wines, and his selective use of some of the finest fruit in the Sierra foothills produces small batch wines of remarkable quality and life.

In keeping with environmentally conscious and integrity based sustainable farming practices, grape seeds, stems, and skins are spread back into the vineyard, providing nutrients to the vines and naturally increasing soil fertility and quality. We strive, from beginning to end, to honor traditions of sustainable agriculture and artisan winemaking in every step of the process.
